Our curriculum supports our school mission and aims; by providing a broad and balanced curriculum that is centred on a strong core of English, Maths and Science we enable students to become resilient learners who have the skills and confidence to thrive in a changing world. All of our teaching staff aim to provide inspiring and challenging learning experiences that deepen students’ understanding of the world around them.
Key Stage 3
Students in Key Stage 3 have lessons in English, Maths, Science, Physical Education, Religious Studies, ICT, Geography, History, Music, Modern Foreign Languages, Art and Design Technology. They are also taught PHSE through themed personal development days which look at aspects as wide ranging as crime and punishment, healthy lifestyles and enterprise education.
Transition curriculum (Year 9)
In Year 9 students follow a transition curriculum, designed to bridge the gap between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This curriculum is designed to develop students generic skills and allows them to experience GCSE and Btec subjects before the options process. This means that students have a rounded understanding of what to expect when they opt for which subjects they will follow in KS4. Students will start the Key Stage 4 curriculum mid-way through Year 9.
Key Stage 4
Key Stage 4 students follow a strong core in English, Maths, Science, Physical Education, ICT and Religious Studies. This is complemented by an options programme that includes Food Technology, Media, Business, Resistant Materials, Art, Sport, Geography, History and Languages. Key Stage 4 students will also be involved in themed personal development days and take part in a programme of Information and Guidance aimed at ensuring they make an effective transition to post-16 education or training.
